UP strongman Atiq Ahmed arrested for violence at university campus in Allahabad
ALLAHABAD: The Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday arrested mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad in a case of violence in an educational institute on the outskirts of the city.
A complaint was lodge against the SP strongman for badgering inside the premises of Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHIATS) in December 2016 and assaulting its staff members who had opposed the unlawful entry.
The Allahabad High Court has summoned the history sheet of Ahmed and asked police to submit details of cases registered against him.
The HC has also rejected the appeal of the petitioner to withdraw the complaint.
Named in dozens of criminal cases, Ahmed hogged limelight when his name cropped up in the murder of young BSP MLA Raju Pal, who was gunned down in broad daylight in one of the city’s most crowded localities on January 25, 2005.
The murder case was handed over to CBI following a Supreme Court order passed in January last year.
