'Good That Truth Is Coming Out': PM Modi Praises Vikrant Massey's Film 'The Sabarmati Report'

The Sabarmati Report, starring Massey and Raashii Khanna, is based on the tragic burning of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra, Gujarat, on February 27, 2002.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised Vikrant Massey's recently released film 'The Sabarmati Report', saying that "the truth is coming out and in a way that common people can see it."

The drama-thriller, starring Massey and Raashii Khanna and directed by Dheeraj Sarna, is based on the tragic burning of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra, Gujarat, on February 27, 2002.

Reacting to a post in praise of the movie, Prime Minister Modi, in a post on X, said, "It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out!"

The original post, which the prime minister shared, listed out the reasons on why 'The Sabarmati Report' is a must watch movie. The post, by one Alok Bhatt, said that the effort made in the movie was commendable because it brings out the important truth of one of the most shameful events in our recent history."

"It is worth introspection for all of us as to how the brutal burning of passengers of the Sabarmati Express was turned into a political minefield by a vested interest group, who saw it as a means to tarnish the image of one leader. Their ecosystem peddled one lie after another other just to satisfy their own petty agenda," the X post read.

The Sabarmati Report has earned Rs 1.69 crore at the box office on its opening day. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film released on Friday and is inspired by true events. It also stars Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra in pivotal roles. The movie was initially announced in January this year with a planned release on May 3.

However, the release was postponed to July and later to August 2, with reports suggesting a September or October date. The film was finally released in theaters on November 15. The film earned Rs 2 crore on Saturday.

"The film boldly approaches the subject matter, unafraid to dive deep into the gritty realities of the incident and the media's role in uncovering the truth. Each actor brings their character to life, contributing to the overall credibility and intensity of the story," ABPLive review of the movie stated.
