Unnao Rape Case: Court Asks CBI To Submit Report on Security Of Victim, Family and Witnesses

The Delhi Court on Tuesday sought a status report from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the steps taken to ensure the safety of the survivor, her family and witnesses.

New Delhi: After the Unnao rape case victim being airlifted to the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in the national capital, the Delhi Court on Tuesday sought a status report from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the steps taken to ensure the safety of the survivor, her family and witnesses. According to news agency PTI, District Judge Dharmesh Sharma also sought a report on the boarding and lodging arrangements made for the family members accompanying the critically-injured woman, who was shifted to Delhi on Tuesday night for better treatment. The court is holding day-to-day trial in the case as per the directions of the Supreme Court. It had on Monday directed expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, accused of raping the woman at his residence in Unnao in 2017, to be shifted to the Tihar jail here from the Sitapur prison in Uttar Pradesh. On Monday, both Sengar and his accomplice Shashi Singh, who had allegedly lured the victim into going to the legislator's residence, were produced in the court in compliance with an order by the judge. The court has also directed to shift Singh to Tihar jail. The apex court had last week directed holding of day-to-day trial in the matter and completing it within 45-days. Even the lawyer of the Unnao rape survivor, who suffered critical injuries in a car-truck collision last week, was airlifted to New Delhi on Tuesday following Supreme Court directives in this regard. "The lawyer was sent to New Delhi special air ambulance. He has left the King George's Medical University (KGMU), where he was undergoing treatment to airport from where he will be taken to New Delhi for better treatment," District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said. According to the KGMU administration, the lawyer was not on ventilator but was still in a serious condition and is in coma. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has taken over the probe into the accident, booked 10 people for murder, including BJP legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is already in jail, charged with the rape of the Unnao woman when she was a minor in 2017.
