Delhi CM Kejriwal Writes To PM Modi, Says Wrong To 'Deny' Permission For Singapore Summit

“It is wrong to hold the permission for attending the event. It is an opportunity to present the Delhi Model of governance at the World stage," read the letter to Modi.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming it is unfair to "deny" him permission to attend the World Cities Summit in Singapore, news agency PTI reported.

The summit is set to take place next month.

“It is wrong to hold the permission for attending the event. It is an opportunity to present the Delhi Model of governance at the World stage. It is against the national interest to stop a CM from visiting such a huge stage,” read the letter to Modi.

“This invitation is a matter of pride and honour for the country. The world wants to know about the Delhi Model of governance and it is wrong to stop a CM from attending the conference. I request you to give permission as soon as possible so that I make India proud.," the letter further reads.

He requested the Prime Minister to grant him authorization to represent the country. According to sources, Delhi LG VK Saxena has not authorised the documentation for Kejriwal's trip to Singapore.

At a meeting on June 1, Kejriwal was invited to the World Cities Summit 2022, which will be hosted in Singapore, by Singapore's High Commissioner, Simon Wong.

The chief minister had stated that he was excited to attend the event and will submit a formal acceptance letter.

In 2019, he was refused permission to attend the Copenhagen C40 World Mayors' Summit in Denmark by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit attended the same event in New York in 2007.
