Unemployed Youth Protest In Dehradun: 13 Arrested, 15 Policemen Injured In Stone Pelting. Section 144 Imposed

Section 144 has been imposed in Dehradun district in order to avoid any untoward incident.

After protests by students in Dehradun demanding an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the recruitment scams in Uttarakhand turned violent on Thursday, the police arrested 13 people. Union president Bobby Panwar has also been arrested, reported news agency ANI.

In order to avoid any untoward incident, section 144 has been imposed in Dehradun district.

"Police arrested 13 protesters, incl Union president Bobby Panwar, in the incident of stone pelting in the demonstration of the unemployed union. 15 policemen were injured in stone pelting during this incident. Section 144 has been imposed in Dehradun district," said Dehradun DM Sonika, as reported by ANI.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered for a detailed magisterial inquiry into the alleged lathi charge incident by the police.

The police had to resort to lathi charge after the protest turned violent and students began to pelt stones in which 15 policemen were injured. The protesters were angry as police had allegedly forced them to lift their dharna on Wednesday.

"The Chief Minister has directed the Chief Secretary for a detailed magisterial inquiry into the law and order situation and the entire sequence of lathi charge," a statement from the CM office said, as reported by ANI.

"After checking all the facts and circumstances, the inquiry officer will make the detailed inquiry report available to the government," it added.

The government is in the firing line of the opposition parties after several exams were cancelled due to the leakage of the examination papers.

"Students are demanding a robust exam system. Already there is a lack of jobs due to the BJP government, then paper gets leaked and cancelled. When students were protesting they were lathi-charged which is unfortunate," former chief minister Harish Rawat was quoted saying by ANI.

The UKPSC paper had recently leaked in the state resulting in the Patwari Lekhpal exam being cancelled for around 1.4 lakh candidates.
