Unacademy’s Sacked Teacher Karan Sangwan Says His Remarks 'Misinterpreted', Firm Acted 'Under Pressure'
Karan Sangwan said Unacademy terminated his service under pressure from social media trolls after they misinterpreted his remark advising students to vote for "educated candidates".
Karan Sangwan, who was earlier sacked by Unacademy, on Saturday said the firm terminated his service under "pressure" from social media trolls after his generic remark to vote for "educated candidates" was misinterpreted. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Sangwan said he made the remark on the channel and not during his lecture at Unacademy. He also said the online education platform acted against him even without hearing his side of the story on the matter.
"Why did termination happen? There is a pressure which gets built and you burst under its load. You (Unacademy) could not deal with the pressure. Therefore, under pressure, you had to take an action which you may have not desired to...I don't know. I can't say anything about what your intentions were," news agency PTI quoted him as saying in the youtube video.
Sangwan further said Unacademy didn't hear his side of the story and directly sent him a termination notice. He also added that the firm used the term “code of conduct” to avoid any pressure. "They did this without explaining and defining a political statement," he said in the video, as reported by PTI.
Meanwhile, Unacademy co-founder Roman Saini said Sangwan went against the contract and, therefore, the company had to terminate his services.
We are an education platform that is deeply committed to imparting quality education. To do this we have in place a strict Code of Conduct for all our educators with the intention of ensuring that our learners have access to unbiased knowledge.

Our learners are at the centre of…
In a Tweet, earlier on August 17, Saini said, “Our learners are at the centre of everything we do. The classroom is not a place to share personal opinions and views as they can wrongly influence them. In the current situation, we were forced to part ways with Karan Sangwan as he was in breach of the Code of Conduct.”
However, Sangwan said the situation changed in his favour after he shared information about his termination in a messaging group on August 17, PTI reported.
