Udaipur Killing | Kanhaiya Lal Had Complained Of Death Threat Earlier, Says Jaipur ADG Law & Order

Following the incident, the ASI was also suspended for negligence at the time when both the parties had reached a compromise and gave in writing that misunderstanding has been cleared.

New Delhi: Following the brutal killing of a tailor in Rajasthan’s Udaipur on Tuesday, it was revealed that the slain tailor, Kanhaiya Lal had complained to the police of receiving death threats earlier. Jaipur ADG, Law and Order, HS Ghumariya said that a case was filed against Kanhaiya Lal on June 10 for “propagating objectionable remarks made against Prophet Mohammad”, reported news agency ANI.

“He was arrested and bailed out,” he added.

Kanhaiya had then made a complaint on June 15 of receiving death threats after which “police took action and called the concerned party threatening him,” the ADG said, adding that the “matter was resolved between both the parties.”

“They reached a compromise in writing that misunderstanding has been cleared. We'll now probe concerned people on why the matter escalated,” Ghumariya said further. The ASI was also suspended after the murder for negligence at that time.

Two men on Tuesday murdered the tailor with a cleave in Udaipur and posted its video online saying that they are avenging an insult to Islam. Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad entered Kanhaiya Lal’s shop in Dhan Mandi posing as customers. While the tailor was taking the measurements, one of them attacked him with a cleaver, nearly severing his neck while the other person shot the entire incident with his mobile phone.

The incident triggered stray cases of violence in the city, a part of which was placed under curfew and prohibitory orders imposed for next one month with mobile and internet services shut temporarily.

A team of National Investigation Agency was sent by the Union Home Ministry to Udaipur, the officials said, reported news agency PTI adding that the Rajasthan Police has also announced a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took to Twitter to appeal for calm and asked people to not share the video ahead. "The guilty will not be spared. The entire police team is working on it with full alertness. I can imagine the anger which is there among people due to the murder. We are taking action accordingly," he told reporters in Jodhpur.

The Chief Minister also said that there is communal tension in the country and appealed to the Prime Minister to address the people.
