'Sulli Deals' App Case: ‘My Son Is Being Framed And Defamed,’ Says Father Of Accused

'Sulli Deals' App Case: Akhilesh Thakur, the father of accused Aumkareshwar Thakur, told reporters here that he has no knowledge of the app in question

New Delhi: On Sunday, the father of a 26-year-old man suspected of being the founder of the 'Sulli Deals' app and detained by Delhi Police in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, alleged that his son was being falsely accused in the case.

Akhilesh Thakur, the father of accused Aumkareshwar Thakur, told reporters here that he has no knowledge of the app in question and that after his son received his BCA degree in 2018, he began working from home as a web designer.

He said that two plainclothes Delhi Police officers arrived at his residence on Saturday afternoon and, after recognising his kid, flew him to the national capital in the evening.

According to him, the cops also took his son's phone and laptop from their home.

‘My Son Is Being Framed & Defamed’: Akhilesh Thakur

"I have come to know that on the basis of just one person's statement, my son, who is an IT specialist, has been arrested and taken to Delhi. My son is being framed and defamed,” Akhilesh Thakur was quoted by PTI in its report.

He claimed that after earning his BCA degree in 2018, his son began doing web design work from home.

"I am an old-fashioned person. I don't even know how to operate a mobile phone properly. I don't know anything about the 'Sulli Deals' app," he further said.

The accused's father stated that he was away in Nagda, a town in the neighbouring Ujjain district, when the Delhi Police apprehended his son.

He further stated that the Delhi Police informed him of his detention on Sunday morning and pressed him to speak with his son.

During the chat, my son urged me not to worry, and he added that he would be heading to Delhi later in the day to organise legal assistance for his kid.

First Arrest In Sulli Deals App Case

Officials reported earlier in the day that the accused had been apprehended in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, by the Delhi Police.

This is the first arrest in the "Sulli Deals" app case.

Hundreds of Muslim women were photographed without permission and doctored and put up for auction on the smartphone app.

Thakur earned his BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) from the IPS Academy in Indore and is a Newyork City Township resident, according to authorities.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that he was a part of a Twitter group where the notion to slander and troll Muslim women was conveyed, according to Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) KPS Malhotra.

Indore Police Claimed That Delhi Police Have Not Provided Any Information On Arrest

Meanwhile, the Indore police claimed on Sunday that their Delhi colleagues had not provided any information on the arrest from here with them.

“We have come to know only from the media about the arrest of Thakur from Indore by Delhi Police. The Delhi Police have not shared any official information with us in this regard so far," Indore Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra informed PTI.

Mishra further stated that the Indore police will consider opening an inquiry if the Delhi Police provide them with the formal information of the case.

Earlier in the day, Delhi's DCP Malhotra said, "He (Sulli Deals app case accused) had developed the code on GitHub. The access of GitHub was with all the members of the group. He had shared the app on his Twitter account. The photos of the Muslim women were uploaded by the group members."
