SpiceJet Flyers, Staffers Argue Over 7-Hour Delay Of Patna Flight At Delhi Airport, Video Goes Viral

The argument began after the flight got delayed by more than seven hours.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport Authority stated on Friday that a group of passengers aboard Spicejet airline aircraft no. SG-8721/STD heading for Patna were causing a commotion at domestic boarding gate 54 at Delhi Airport, news agency ANI reported. The argument began after the flight got delayed by more than seven hours.

"On query, it was learnt that the flight was delayed for more than 7 hrs as the incoming flight arrived. On this , the group got frustrated and started creating nuisance with airlines' staff at B/Gate area. The same was informed to B/G I/C who along with QRT responded at the location and pacified the matter," the Airport Authority stated.

A video of the incident has surfaced online.

"Today’s SpiceJet Delhi-Patna flight SG 8721 has already landed at its destination. The flight’s departure had been revised last night and passengers had been duly informed about the revised departure time at 12.40 a.m. last night itself so that they could accordingly plan their travel to the airport," the SpiceJet spokesperson stated.

Previously, many SpiceJet aircraft had encountered substantial delays since Monday, causing hundreds of passengers hardship. Long delays have been experienced on flights from Delhi to Pune, Pune to Dubai, and Delhi to Patna, TOI reported. Passengers have voiced dissatisfaction with the airline's lack of sufficient communication and reaction.

Huzepha Kapuswala, who was travelling with his elderly grandmother on SpiceJet aircraft SG-52 from Dubai to Pune, claimed a 7-hour delay, according to a TOI report. He added that the delay was unexpected because the airline had offered no previous notice. Other passengers went to social media sites such as X (previously Twitter) to express their dissatisfaction, citing aircraft delays and the lack of timely updates. Chetna Pillay detailed many rescheduling situations, while Anshumaan Singh expressed anger when a 10-hour delay ruined his plans to attend a wedding.

Earlier this year, the government stated that as many as 546 technical glitches were reported by various airlines in the country in 2022, with Indigo airline topping the list with 215 such instances. According to MoCA statistics, Indigo Airlines led the list with 215 such instances in 2022, while Spicejet and Vistara recorded 143 and 97 technical snag-related incidences, respectively.
