SC Collegium Recommends Chief Justices Of Delhi, Rajasthan, Gauhati HCs For Appointment To Top Court
The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday recommended the names of three new judges for the appointment of apex court judges.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday recommended the names of three new judges for the appointment of apex court judges.
The collegium recommended Delhi High Court Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Augustine George Masih, and Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Sandeep Mehta for elevation to the Centre for Supreme Court judges.
Justice Satish Chandra Sharma
Justice Satish Chandra Sharma was appointed as a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on January 18, 2008, according to the resolution.
He was elevated as Chief Justice of Telangana High Court on October 11, 2021, and thereafter transferred to Delhi High Court on June 28, 2022.
Justice Sharma has served as a judge for more than 15 years and as Chief Justice for more than 2 years. According to the resolution, before his elevation as a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Justice Sharma practised in constitutional, service, civil and criminal matters.
Justice Augustine George Masih
Justice A G Masih was appointed as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 10, 2008.
He was elevated as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court on May 30, 2023. As per the resolution, during his long tenure as a judge of the High Court, Justice Masih has acquired significant experience in diverse fields of law.
Before his elevation, he practised in Constitutional, service, labour, and civil matters.
Justice Sandeep Mehta
Justice Sandeep Mehta was appointed as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court on May 30, 2011. After attaining seniority there, he was elevated as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court and has been serving there since February 15, 2023.
Justice Mehta has served as a judge of the High Court for more than 12 years. During his long tenure as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court and as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, he has acquired significant adjudicatory experience, according to the resolution.
Before his elevation, he practised before trial courts, the High Court, and the Supreme Court, mainly in constitutional and criminal laws.
