Sanjay Arora Appointed Delhi's Police Commissioner, Know The New Delhi CP Who Is Replacing Rakesh Asthana

Delhi Commissioner of Police: Currently, Sanjay Arora is the Director General (DG) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Arora will succeed Rakesh Asthana, an IPS officer from the Gujarat Cadre.

Sanjay Arora, an IPS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre and a 1988 batch member, has been named Delhi's commissioner of police, news agency ANI reported.

Currently, Sanjay Arora is the Director General (DG) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Arora will succeed Rakesh Asthana, an IPS officer from the Gujarat Cadre.

“Police Division, MHA vide OM No.l-21019/09/2022-IPS.III dated 31.07.2022 has conveyed the approval of the Competent Authority for intercadre deputation of Sh. Sanjay Arora, JPS (TN: 1988) from Tamil Nadu Cadre to AGMUT Cadre," an official notification issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affaris reads, news 18 reported. 

“In pursuance of the said approval, Sh. Sanjay Arora, JPS (TN: 1988) is hereby appointed as Commissioner of Police, Delhi with effect from 1st August, 2022 or from the date of taking over charge whichever is later and till further orders," it further reads.

Who Is Sanjay Arora?

He graduated from Jaipur's Malviya National Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

He worked in Tamil Nadu Police in various capacities after joining the IPS. He was the Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Special Task Force, where he had major success against the Veerappan gang, for which he received the CM's Gallantry Medal for Bravery and Heroic Action.

After being trained by the NSG, Sanjay Arora played a key role in founding the Special Protection Group (SSG) in 1991 to provide security to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu during the heydays of LTTE activities.
