'Covid, Climate Change And Geopolitical Tensions Have Disrupted Global Supply Chains': Piyush Goyal

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday stated that covid pandemic, impact of climate change and various eopolitical tensions have disrupted global supply chains, news agency ANI reported. While speaking at the Voice of Global South Summit Engagement in San Francisco, the Union Minister highlighted need for collective global voice in order to find the solutions to global challenges.
Speaking at the Voice of Global South Summit Engagement, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal said: "The polycrisis of COVID-19 pandemic, impact of climate change and raging geopolitical tensions have disrupted and underscored the fragility of global supply chains. These disruptions have created monumental challenges in food, connecting energy, security, cost of living, and achievement of sustainable development goals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has rightly pointed out that most of the global challenges have not been created by the global south, but they affect us more. He has further underscored the need for our collective voice to be heard whenever and wherever the world looks for solutions to global challenges."

Earlier on November 16, Goyal also urged world leaders to work together to build a future in which climate change is not a burden but an opportunity for innovation and progress, news agency PTI reported. The minister spoke at the APEC Informal Leaders' Dialogue in San Francisco, highlighting India's environmental leadership in attaining the renewable energy target of 175 gigatonnes nine years ahead of schedule.
"He called upon the world leaders to join hands as a global community to construct a future where sustainability is not a distant aspiration but a way of life and where climate action is not a burden but an opportunity for innovation and growth," the commerce ministry said.
Goyal also attended the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) Investor Forum.
The Forum, co-hosted by US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and Senior Advisor to the President Amos Hochstein, focused on collaborative measures and shared goals to enhance private investment in the Indo-Pacific.
Raimondo emphasised India and the United States' ongoing collaboration through the Green Transition Fund.
The minister also attended the IPEF Leaders Meeting with international leaders.
Several foreign leaders, including the US President, attended the engagement.
Several IPEF initiatives were introduced during the summit, including the Critical Minerals Dialogue, Investment Accelerator, Catalytic Fund, Investor Forum, and IPEF Networks.
