Ukraine Crisis: 7 Evacuation Flights To Reach Delhi Tomorrow Carrying Stranded Indians In Ukraine

A special evacuation flight from New Delhi will depart today for Kosice, Slovakia to bring back stranded Indians. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will be on-board the flight to oversee the evacuation. 

New Delhi: With tensions between Russia and Ukraine refusing to die down, around seven flights will arrive in Delhi on Wednesday carrying stranded Indians from the war-torn east European country, ANI reported.  

Under 'Operation Ganga', launched by the government to evacuate Indians from the conflict zone, nine flights have already brought back more than 1,000 students stuck in Ukraine.

The first flight of Indigo Airlines will take off from Hungary’s capital Budapest on Tuesday evening and is expected to land at Delhi airport at around 7:20 am on Wednesday, ANI reported quoting sources. The Indigo flight has the capacity to carry 216 passengers.

Other flights will take off throughout the day from Budapest, Rzeszow, and Bucharest and will be landing at Delhi airport on Wednesday by late evening.

Around 20 flights from Air India, Air India Express, Indigo and SpiceJet have been deployed by the Union Government for evacuation. Besides, the Air Force has also been asked to evacuate Indians from neighboring countries of Ukraine. 

The Air India flight has a capacity of 250 passengers, while Air India Express has 180 and IndiGo planes carry 216 passengers on board.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday confirmed the death of an Indian student in Eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. The deceased student, Naveen SG, hailed from Karnataka’s Haveri district and was living in Arkhitektora Beketova. He was studying medicine at Kharkiv National Medical University.
