'Why Is It Taking So Much Time': Mamata Banerjee Asks Govt To Ramp Up Evacuation Process

She also questioned the government asking “why is it taking so much time to bring them (the government) back,” and “why was not things done earlier.”

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Friday, expressed her concern for the students still stuck in war-hit Ukraine. Taking to Twitter, the CM wrote, “I am very much worried about the lives of the Indian students held up in Ukraine. Life is very precious.”

She also questioned the government asking “why is it taking so much time to bring them (the government) back,” and “why was not things done earlier.”

 

She further requested the Union Government to ramp up the evacuation process and arrange more flights. “I urge the Central Government that an adequate number of flights be arranged immediately and all the students brought back as soon as possible,” wrote the TMC leader. 

On Friday, a student named Harjot Singh was caught amid shooting and was hit multiple times while trying to make way to Lviv from the capital city of Kyiv. Many students are still stuck in Ukraine who are either stuck in bunkers or are unable to reach railway stations to board special trains that are bound to Western regions of the country.

On Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs said that under ‘Operation Ganga’ 30 flights have brought back 6,400 Indians from Ukraine so far, and more flights are being scheduled to bring Indians still stuck there. 

The Indian embassy in Ukraine issued a fresh advisory for the Indian citizens as the overall ground situation deteriorated with gunfire, bombings and missile attacks continuing to rock various parts of the country, including its capital Kyiv

On the ninth day of Russian invasion in Ukraine, Moscow launched an attack on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Power Plant. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy condemned the attack with strong words terming it as “nuclear terror.”
