Row after Yeddyurappa eats hotel food at Dalit’s house, BJP says ‘allegations politically motivated’
Tumakuru, Karnataka: State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief B.S. Yedyyurappa got surrounded by controversies on Monday on allegations of promoting untouchability after the meal he consumed at a Dalit’s home was allegedly prepared and brought from a nearby hotel.
The former Chief Minister was accompanies by other party members on Friday during his visit to Tumakuru district.
As per reports, the Chief Minister allegedly ate idlis from a nearby hotel and not the food prepared by the family for him.
On being ‘let down’ by the former Chief Minister, a young family member lodged a complaint in the police station claiming that “his act would spark off negativity in the community”.
On the other hand, party spokesperson has regarded the same as a political move and dismissed the allegations of disrespecting the family. The spokesperson added that those who raised the issue must immediately apologise to the family.
BJP spokesperson said, "The Congress and the JD (U) are losing ground in Karnataka. To compensate for this, they are fabricating charges against Yeddyurappa. The allegations are totally false.
Yeddyurappa has received heat over a similar situation earlier in Tumakuru where he was photographed eating "tatte idli" at a Dalit’ s house at Gubbi.
Drawing upon the former Chief Minister’s efforts in uplifting the socially backward strata in the state, Prakash said the former has “always propagated social harmony, rather than gaining support purely as a means of vote bank politics”.
