Republic Day 2023: PM Modi Wears Multicolour Rajasthani Turban Symbolising India's Diversity

Republic Day 2023: PM Modi led the nation in paying tribute to the fallen soldiers at National War Memorial wearing traditional white kurta and trouser with a black coat and white stole.

Continuing his tradition of donning flamboyant and colourful turbans, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chose a multicolour Rajasthani turban with a long tail that stood out in a black-and-white ensemble, symbolising India's diverse culture, for the 74th Republic Day celebrations at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. PM Modi's eye-catching turbans and kurtas have been a highlight of his Republic Day and Independence Day appearances.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying tribute to the fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial at the India Gate, he could be seen wearing traditional white kurta with white trouser, a black coat and a white stole.

PM Modi arrived at the National War Memorial before heading to Kartavya Path commencing the Republic Day celebrations. At National War Memorial PM Modi was received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh where the homage ceremony took place. Later, PM Modi and other dignitaries reached the saluting dias where he welcomed President Droupadi Murmu and chief guest, President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi extended his greetings to the people of the nation.

"Many wishes for the Republic Day. This time this occasion is also special because we are celebrating it during the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence. We wish to move ahead unitedly to make the dreams of the great freedom fighters of the country come true.

Happy Republic Day to all fellow Indians!" he tweeted.

Prime Minister Modi had last year on Republic Day wore a cap from Uttarakhand along with Brahmakamal, which is the state flower of Uttarakhand. He uses this flower whenever he does pooja at Kedarnath.

The attire which consisted of traditional white kurta pajama coupled with Nehru jacket was completed with a stole from Manipur.

In the year 2020, PM Modi had sported a saffron 'bandhej' headgear with a tail for the 71st Republic Day. Turbans have always remained a highlight of the prime minister's sartorial choices at Independence Day and Republic Day events.
