Republic Day 2020: ‘Sending Copy Of Constitution To PM Modi,’ Says Congress

On Republic Day 2020, the Congress took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that it has sent a copy of the Indian Constitution to him.

New Delhi: Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Republic Day, the Congress party has said that it is sending a copy of the Constitution of India to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has urged him to read it when he gets “time off from dividing the country.” In a tweet from its official handle, the party said: “Dear PM, The Constitution is reaching you soon. When you get time off from dividing the country, please do read it. Regards, Congress.” A screenshot of the online order was also shared along with the tweet. This comes at a time when the ruling BJP government at the Centre is facing allegations of violating the ideals of Constitution by enacting the Citizenship Amendment Act. The opposition parties have alleged the Act to be religiously biased as it omits the Muslim community from its purview. Earlier in the day, party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala had also tweeted along similar lines. "Let us take an oath on the 71st Republic Day to continue the struggle for justice, for the birth-right of being independent, for walking on the ideology of equality, for keeping alive the flame of brotherhood. So that the governments can remember- that opposing any decision which does not stand the test of Constitution is a duty," Surjewala's tweet, roughly translated in English from Hindi, read.
