Relief for AAP MLA Somnath Bharti as Delhi HC quashes FIR accusing him of domestic violence

New Delhi: In a huge reprieve for AAP MLA Somnath Bharti, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday quashed an FIR accusing him of domestic violence. Justice Chander Shekhar allowed Bharti's plea to quash the criminal case after noting that Bharti and his wife Lipika Mitra are living happily together. The court also noted that the woman has no objection if the FIR is quashed. It had earlier allowed Bharti's wife to withdraw her petition seeking cancellation of the bail granted to him in the domestic violence case in view of the settlement of their marital dispute. In her complaint to the commission (DCW) in the year 2015, Lipika Mitra, 35, said he had been physically and emotionally abusing her ever since they got married in 2010. Mitra also alleged that Bharti had ill-treated her even while she as pregnant. Mitra, who was a finance professional before she got married, was a homemaker when the incident happened.
