New Delhi: Rebel Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Alka Lamba on Tuesday met the interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi, further fueling speculations that she is considering to return to the grand old praty ahead of Assembly elections in Delhi which is due next month. Lamba's meeting with Sonia Gandhi comes amid rumors of her planning her return to Congress and bitter relations with AAP and its chief Arvind Kejriwal. Assembly elections in the national capital will take place in 2020 with AAP seeking second term after posting a resounding victory in the 2015 elections. Lamba was associated with the Congress party for around 20 years before she joined Kejriwal's AAP. The party had also stated clearly that it would accept Lamba's resignation. An MLA from Delhi's Chandni Chowk constituency, Lamba had in August announced that she has made up her mind about leaving the party and contesting the assembly election as an Independent candidate. Soon after meeting Sonia Gandhi, Lamba took to Twitter and informed about her meeting with the Congress interim President. "Sonia Gandhi is not just the President of Congress but also the Chairperson of UPA and big leader of Secular mindset. A discussion with her on the current situation of the country was long due. Today got chance to speaking about all topics in detail. There has been discussions in political landscape and it should continue," she tweeted in Hindi. Lamba has been at odds with AAP over the past few months after the party faced a massive defeat in Lok Sabha polls earlier this year. She had sought accountability from Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi. It was also said that she was removed from the official WhatsApp group of party MLAs. She had also refused to campaign for AAP during the Lok Sabha Polls 2019 and had opted out of Kejriwal's roadshow after she was asked to walk behind his car. Lamba was also not happy with AAP over its decision to pass a resolution to revoke former prime minister and Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi's Bharat Ratna.
