Rajasthan: Minister Receives 'Threat Call' Ahead Of Rajya Sabha Polls, FIR Registered

IG (Bikaner) Omprakash said that the caller has been identified and a case has been registered. Further investigation on the matter is underway

New Delhi: Ahead of the Raya Sabha elections, Rajasthan minister Govind Ram Meghwal, staying at a resort in Udaipur with other Congress MLAs, alleged on Wednesday that he was threatened by a man who demanded Rs 70 lakh from him, news agency PTI reported. The disaster and relief management minister on Tuesday received an internet call where the caller threatened Meghwal with dire consequences if he failed to make the payment, police said.

According to the report, the caller identified himself as a member of SOPU gang and demanded Rs 70 lakh from the minister. He also issued a threat to Meghwal’s family that lives in Bikaner, SP (Bikaner) Gaurav Yadav told PTI.

IG (Bikaner) Omprakash said that the caller has been identified and a case has been registered. Further investigation on the matter is underway, he added.

Meanwhile, the minister reached Jaipur along with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday.

Notably, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday once again accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of the horse-trading attempt ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections and asked why the party backed the candidature of media baron Subhash Chandra when it lacked numbers to win the seat.

The chief minister said that Chandra has filed his papers since the opposition BJP intends to poach legislators of other parties ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls to four seats from the state on June 10.

CM Gehlot's statement comes a day after Chandra said that eight MLAs of the ruling Congress in Rajasthan may vote for him and asked former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot to cross sides.
