Railways' new special trains: As the country is gradually unlocking itself after months of coronavirus-induced curbs, the Railways has announced  that it will run 40 pairs of new special trains from September 12.

Chairman of Railway Board, Vinod Kumar Yadav said on Saturday that the 80 news special trains, which will include 40 pairs will begin from September 12 and the reservation for these will begin from September 10.

Important Points:

  • Reservation will begin from September 10.

  • The 80 new special trains (40 pairs) will be in addition to 230 trains in operation, Yadav said.

  • He added that these trains will be run whenever there is a request from state governments for the ongoing exam season and other such functions.

  • He said that the monitoring will be done by the board and whenever there is a demand for a train or waiting list is too long, a clone train will be run for the purpose.


In present times, students across country are in need of traveling to their centres as several examinations are aligned for this month.  NEET is scheduled to be held on September 13, JEE-Main has been planned from September 1-6. The common NDA 2020 exam is scheduled to be held on September 6.

The Railways had suspended the passenger, mail and express train services from March 25 amid the nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. The national transporter has started to run Shramik Special trains from May 1 to transport the stranded migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists and students.

The railways also started to operate 15 pairs of special air conditioned trains from May 12 and 100 pairs of Special time tabled trains from June 1.
