Rahul Gandhi Receives Notice From Delhi Police Over 'Women Still Being Sexually Assaulted' Remark

The police have forwarded a list of questions after becoming aware of the social media posts.

In response to Rahul Gandhi's statement that "women are still being sexually assaulted" during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Delhi Police have sent him a notice and asked for information on the victims so that appropriate action may be done, according to authorities on Thursday., news agency ANI reported.

The police have forwarded a list of questions after becoming aware of the social media posts.

During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandi had issued a statement in Srinagar, saying: "In one particular case I asked a girl, she had been raped, I asked her should we call the police, she said that don't call the police then I will be shamed."

The Congress leader has been urged by the police to furnish information on these victims so that they can be given security.

Bharat Jodo Yatra In J&K

On the J&K leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that the demand for statehood of Jammu and Kashmir is the most important issue and that his party will use its "entire might" to restore it.

“Here in J&K, statehood is your biggest issue. Nothing is bigger than it. Your right has been snatched. The Congress party will fully support you and your statehood (demand). To reinstate statehood, the Congress will use our entire might," he had stated. 

The 3500-kilometre Bharat Jodo Yatra, started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7, and concluded in Srinagar on January 30. On January 30, the day the yatra ended in Srinagar, Rahul Gandhi unequivocally stated: “Even though my colleagues in the Congress would not like it, the BJY was not even for the Congress.”
