Navjot Singh Sidhu Likely To Remain As Punjab Congress Chief: Reports
As per sources, the Congress MLA said this outside the Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh after his meeting with Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
New Delhi: In what appears to be a move aimed at pacifying upset Navjot Singh Sidhu, Bassi Pathana MLA Gurpreet Singh GP on Thursday said the former will continue to be the state Congress chief.
As per sources, the Congress MLA said this outside the Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh after his meeting with Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
Earlier in the day, Sidhu met the Chief Minister at the Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh.
“Chief Minister has invited me for talks … will reciprocate by reaching Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh at 3:00 PM today, he is welcome for any discussions!” he tweeted before the meeting.
Earlier on Wednesday, the cricketer-turned-politician released a video message on his Twitter handle in which he indirectly slammed the induction of tainted MLAs in Chief Minister Channi-led new cabinet.
Sidhu said that his only religion is to make better the lives of the people, adding he did not believe in bringing back the tainted people and would fight this to the end.
“I will continue the fight for right and truth till the last moment,” he tweeted in Hindi and shared the video message.
Sidhu, named the Punjab Congress chief in July, quit earlier on Tuesday.
Sidhu, who took to Twitter to make the announcement, however, said he will continue to serve the Congress party.
He also shared the resignation letter that he had written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi in which he mentioned that he can never compromise with Punjab's future and agenda.
“The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner. I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. I will continue to serve the Congress,” he wrote in his resignation letter.
