New Delhi: A railway employee has filed a complaint of cheating with the Thane police against an Ayurvedic treatment center, an official said on Sunday, news agency PTI reported.
The individual, who works as a painter for the railway, alleged that the center promised to provide treatment for his wife, who suffers from cancer but cheated him out of Rs. 15.22 lakh, the Naupada police station official said.
"He has alleged there was no improvement in the condition of his wife since the treatment started on February last year. Moreover, after some time the personnel at the centre started evading him. Two persons from the Ayurveda centre were booked on Saturday for cheating and other offences," he said, as per PTI.
According to the police, no one has been arrested in the case so far and the probe is underway.
Last month in February, a Gurugram woman, director of a private firm, was allegedly duped of Rs 1.5 crore by four people who told her they help organise celebrity cricket matches and that she can make a profit by investing in their project, the police said.
According to PTI, an FIR has been registered against the four including a couple -- Indu and Rajeev -- at Sector 50 police station based on a complaint filed by Babita Yadav, the director of Unnati Private Limited.
Yadav alleged in her complaint that the couple and their two friends -- Praveen Sethi and Pawan Jangda -- took Rs 1.5 crore from her in 2018 in the name of organising cricket games involving Bollywood stars, but the matches never happened and they were also not returning her money.
"As per the complaint, an FIR has been registered and we are verifying the facts. Action will be taken as per the law," said inspector Rajesh Kumar, SHO of sector 50 police station.
