PM Narendra Modi To Visit Kaziranga National Park During Assam Visit

PM Modi's visit is a part of the commemorations for the golden jubilee celebration of Kaziranga National Park's declaration as a national park in February 1974.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to stay at the Kaziranga National Park during his upcoming two-day visit to Assam. PM Modi will also partake in a jungle safari.

According to an official announcement on Wednesday, PM Modi is set to arrive at Kaziranga on the evening of March 8, where he will spend the night. The following morning, he is scheduled to embark on a safari within the park before departing for Jorhat to participate in a series of scheduled events.

As per a PTI report, Assam Forest and Environment Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary visited the Kaziranga National Park on Tuesday and held a series of meetings with senior officials, including Chief Secretary Paban Borthakur and Director General of Police G P Singh, to finalise arrangements for the prime minister's visit.The authorities have made arrangements for both jeep and elephant safaris inside the park, the official said.

PM Modi Will Unveil Bronze Statue Of Ahom General, Lachit Barphukan In Jorhat

During his visit, PM Modi is slated to participate in several significant events. On March 9, he is scheduled to unveil a monumental bronze statue of the legendary Ahom general, Lachit Barphukan, in Jorhat. Additionally, Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Sivasagar Medical College and partake in the 'Griha Pravesh' ceremony for 5.5 lakh homes constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), reported PTI.

Furthermore, the PM Modi will address a public meeting at Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat. These engagements are part of the commemorations for the golden jubilee celebration of Kaziranga National Park's declaration as a national park in February 1974.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had on February 15 visited the statue of Lachit Barphukan, located at Ahom general's 'maidam' (memorial), at Lahdoigarh in ollongapar area of the district, as per PTI.

CM Himanta announced plans to develop the area into a Lachit Barphukan Cultural Centre, highlighting the significance of preserving and promoting Assam's rich cultural heritage. Additionally, he revealed plans to establish two museums within the precincts—one dedicated to the Ahom era and the other showcasing artifacts from the period's warfare, reported PTI.

Barphukan is famed in Assam's history for thwarting the Mughal Army in the 1671 naval 'Battle of Saraighat' on River Brahmaputra.
