President Droupadi Murmu Undergoes Cataract Surgery, Discharged From Hospital In Delhi

President Murmu's Cataract Surgery: President underwent a cataract surgery in New Delhi at the Army Referral and Research Hospital. She was discharged from the hospital after the surgery went well.

President Droupadi Murmu underwent a cataract surgery at the Army Hospital (Research and Referral) in Delhi on Sunday; the surgery was successful, and she was discharged from the hospital, a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson said, news agency PTI reported.

"...Murmu underwent cataract surgery today.... Surgery was successful and she has been discharged from the hospital,” he said.

"President Murmu had cataract surgery on her left eye today at 11:30 a.m. at Army Hospital Research & Referral, Delhi Cantt. 

Brig SK Mishra and his team performed the surgery," ANI reported.

"She was released from the hospital at 1:30 p.m. and advised to rest:" R&R at the Army Hospital told news agency ANI. 

 

The operation took place on Sunday morning at the Army Hospital Research and Referral Centre in Delhi Cantt. Later, the team is expected to operate on Murmu's right eye, Times of India reported. 

Murmu, 64, was sworn in as the 15th President of India on July 25, 2022.

During the Covid pandemic last year, Brigadier Mishra and his team performed successful cataract operations on former President Ram Nath Kovind and First Lady Savita Kovind. Later, Kovind presented Brigadier and his team with a certificate of appreciation.

Mishra, who is originally from the Mau district but now lives in Lucknow, is said to be the most decorated doctor in the history of the Indian armed forces medical services, as per an article by Times of India. 

He is currently the head of the Army Hospital (R&R) Delhi's eye department. Mishra graduated from AFMC Pune and went on to complete his super speciality in Vitreo Retinal surgery at AIIMS New Delhi.
