Prashant Kishor Takes Dig At 'Saheb' Narendra Modi, Says State Polls Do Not Decide Fate Of General Elections

Prashant Kishor said that state victories do not hold much importance, and the real fight for power to the Centre will happen in 2024.

New Delhi: A day after Bharatiya Janata Party's  (BJP) imposing victory in four of the five state elections held February-March, poll strategist Prashant Kishor said that state victories do not hold much importance, and the real fight for power to the Centre will happen in 2024.

He also said the the BJP with its victory in the state elections is trying to psychologically demotivate opposition parties.

Taking to his Twitter handle Friday, Kishor said, " Battle for India will be fought and decided in 2024 and not in any state elections. Saheb knows this! Hence this clever attempt to create frenzy around state results to establish a decisive psychological advantage over opposition. Don't fall or be part of this false narrative."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a victory gathering at the party headquarters in Delhi Thursday, had said that the victory in the state elections hints towards outcome the general elections to be held in 2024.

"Many people had said that the fate of the 2019 general election was decided when the 2017 UP election result was declared," said PM Modi.

"All I can say is that the same thought applies now too... the 2024 general election result can be glimpsed in the result of the 2022 UP election," he further added.

In the election results announced for five state assemblies on March 10, the BJP emerged victorious with a thumping majority in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.

The BJP alliance won 273 seats in Uttar Pradesh, while its closet rival the Samajwadi Party managed to bag 125 seats. With this victory, Yogi Adityanath will become the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second consecutive term, breaking 35-year jinx.

In Uttarakhand too the BJP won a complete majority. It bagged 47 seats in the 70-member assembly, while its rival Congress won on 19 constituencies.

The other two states of Manipur and Goa saw the BJP bag 30 and 20 seats, respectively. Punjab was the only state where it lacked performance.
