Elections in Tripura on Feb 18, Meghalaya & Nagaland on Feb 27; Results on March 3
New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti has today announced Assembly elections in three north-east states--Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.
"Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura all have 60 seats each. EVM and VVPAT will be used in all three states, first level checks have been completed," CEC AK Joti said.
"Model code of conduct comes into effect from today," CEC said and added "Polling for legislative assembly elections in Tripura to be held on 18 Feb, polling in Meghalaya and Nagaland to be held on 27 February; Counting for all three states on 3 March."
The electoral rolls in Meghalaya comprise 18,30,104 voters of which 923,848 are females.
The term of the Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura legislative assemblies will end on March 6, March 13 and March 14 respectively.
The three assemblies have 60 members each.
Manik Sarkar, chief minister of the Left Front government in Tripua is seeking a fourth term. The BJP has emerged as the main challenger here.
In Meghalaya and Nagaland, two Christian-majority states, the BJP hopes to put up a good performance, especially in the former, where the Congress led by Mukul Sangma is in power.
The Naga People's Front, which is in power in Nagaland, is an ally of the BJP.
