Yoga Session At UNHQ, Bilateral Talks With Biden, El-Sisi — PM Modi's Schedule For US, Egypt Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a five-day tour of two nations - the USA and Egypt on June 20 where he will hold talks with US President Joe Biden and Egypt President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-nation visit to the USA and Egypt on June 20. According to an official release by the Ministry of External Affairs, at the invitation of US President Joseph Biden, and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Prime Minister Modi will pay an Official State Visit to the USA. Prime Minister will also travel to Cairo to pay a State Visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt. MEA said that the visit is at the invitation of Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt.

Here’s the schedule of PM Narendra Modi for his visit to the USA and Egypt:

June 21

The MEA release said that the visit will commence in New York, where PM Modi will lead the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21. Notably, in December 2014, the UN General Assembly had adopted a resolution proclaiming June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.

June 22

The Prime Minister will thereafter travel to Washington D.C., where he will receive a ceremonial welcome at the White House on June 22. Here the OM will meet President Biden to continue their high-level dialogue. As per the release, President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will host a State Dinner in honour of the Prime Minister the same evening.

"At the invitation of Congressional Leaders, including the Hon. Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr. Kevin McCarthy and Hon. Speaker of the Senate Mr. Charles Schumer, Prime Minister will address a Joint Sitting of the U.S. Congress on June 22," MEA said.

June 23

On June 23, Prime Minister Modi will be jointly hosted at a luncheon by Kamala Harris, US Vice President and Mr. Antony Bilnken, Secretary of State.

Apart from this, as per the release, the PM is scheduled to have several curated interactions with leading CEOs, professionals, and other stakeholders. He will also meet members of the Indian Diaspora.

June 24-25

Prime Minister Modi will then leave for Egypt after concluding his three-day US visit and will arrive in Cairo on June 24. President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had extended the invitation of the visit to the Prime Minister in January this year when he graced our Republic Day celebrations as the ‘Chief Guest’. This will be PM Modi’s first visit to Egypt.

MEA stated that besides his talks with President Sisi, Prime Minister is likely to interact with senior dignitaries from the Egyptian Government, some prominent Egyptian personalities, as well as the Indian community in Egypt.

"Relations between India and Egypt are based on ancient trade and economic linkages as well as cultural and deep-rooted people-to-people ties. During the State Visit of President Sisi in January 2023, it was agreed to elevate the relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership’," the release stated.
