PM Modi extended greetings to medical professionals and health care workers on Doctor's Day and said that the nation was grateful for their contribution.

PM Modi Speech Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the medical fraternity on the occasion of National Doctor's Day during an event organised by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

While speaking at the event, PM Modi paid tribute to those doctors and medical staff who have lost their lives protecting others during first and second wave of Coronavirus pandemic.

"On behalf of 130 crore Indians, I want to thank all the doctors," PM said in his opening remarks.

"Today, when the country is fighting a major battle against Covid, our doctors have saved lakhs of lives. Several doctors have even sacrificed themselves in their tireless efforts. I pay my tributes to all these souls," PM said.

While speaking on the occasion, PM announced a credit gurantee scheme of Rs 50,000. "To further improve healthcare structure, we're starting a Rs 50,000 crore credit guarantee scheme in areas where medical infrastructure is lacking," PM said.

He also said that the government has allotted Rs 22,000 crore to improve medical infrastructure for children.

Earlier today, PM Modi extended greetings to medical professionals and health care workers on Doctor's Day and said that the nation was grateful for their contribution during the coronavirus pandemic. In a tweet, PM Modi also said that India has made remarkable strides in the world of medicine, and has also contributed to making our planet healthier.

The Prime Minister also shared an excerpt from his radio address, "Mann ki Baat", where he remembered eminent physician Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Doctor's Day on July 1st.

"We are all grateful for the contribution of doctors in the Corona period. Our doctors have served us without caring about their lives. Therefore, this time National Doctors' Day becomes all the more special," Modi had said in his radio broadcast.

The Government of India had established Doctors' Day in 1991 to recognize the contributions of BC Roy. He played an important role in the establishment of Medical Council of India and Indian Medical Association.
