PM Modi To Visit Japan, Papua New Guinea & Australia To Attend G7, Quad Summits

PM Modi will attend the G7 summit in Japan, 3rd Summit of the Forum for India–Pacific Islands Cooperation in Papua New Guinea, and the Quad Summit in Australia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a visit to Japan, Papua New Guinea, and Australia from May 19 to May 24 to attend the G7 summit, 3rd Summit of the Forum for India–Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC III Summit), and the Quad Summit respectively. The Prime Minister will first visit Hiroshima in Japan from May 19 to May 23, 2023 to attend the International Group of Seven (G7) summit. 

Modi will be attending the G7 summit on the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and will speak on subjects such as peace, stability & prosperity of a sustainable planet; food, fertiliser and energy security; health; gender equality; climate change and environment; resilient infrastructure; and development cooperation, read the official statement by the Ministry of External Affairs. 

He will also hold bilateral meetings with some of the participating leaders on the side-lines of the Summit, it added.

PM Modi’s Visit To Papua New Guinea

After Japan, PM Modi will visit Papua New Guinea where he will host the 3rd Summit of the Forum for India–Pacific Islands Cooperation jointly with Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, James Marape on May 22. During his visit, which will be the first one by an Indian Prime Minister, Modi will have bilateral engagements with Governor-General Bob Dadae and PM Marape. 

FIPIC was launched in 2014 involves India and 14 Pacific Island Countries (PICs), namely, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Samoa, Vanuatu, Niue, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Marshall Islands, Cook Islands, Palau, Nauru and Solomon Islands.

PM Modi’s Australia Visit To Attend Quad Summit 

 From May 22 to 24, the Prime Minister will be in Sydney to participate in the Quad Leaders’ Summit, along with US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida, and host PM Anthony Albanese. 

The Summit provides an opportunity for the Leaders to exchange views about developments in the Indo-Pacific region and advance their vision for a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific, read the statement.

Modi will hold bilateral talks with Albanese on May 24 and will also interact with Australian CEOs and business leaders, and address the Indian diaspora at a community event in Sydney on May 23.
