Narendra Modi Speech HIGHLIGHTS: As India prepares to make its transition to the second phase of Unlocking from a nationwide implementation of lockdown to contain the spread of Coronavirus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the nation.

During his speech, which lasted for about 16 minutes, PM Modi said: We are entering UNLOCK 2 and the season of cough, fever and cold is also about to start. In such a situation, I urge countrymen to take care of themselves.

Narendra Modi Speech HIGHLIGHTS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the nation at 4 pm amid the significant spurt in Coronavirus infections in the country. The information regarding PM Modi's address was shared by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Twitter.

Though it is still not clear as to what PM Modi will speaking about in his address, but speculations are high that he will share his views on Unlock 2.0, which will kick in from Wednesday.

On Monday night, the government released the new guidelines for Unlock 2.0. It said the new rules will be in force till July 31. Almost all activities have been allowed outside the containment zones save a few like functioning of schools and colleges and international travel, among others.

Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday issued new guidelines for Unlock 2 to open up of more activities in areas outside the Containment Zones. The new guidelines will come into effect from July 1, 2020, the process of phased re-opening of activities has been extended further

National broadcaster Doordarshan will telecast the Prime Minister's address live. It is also worth noting that PM Modi's address comes in the backdrop of the growing India-China border tensions.

On Monday evening, the government banned 59 Chinese apps under national security considerations, a move seen as India's response to China's recent misadventures that resulted in casualties on both sides.

In his Sunday's address to the nation during Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi had interacted for the first time with Indian citizens over the India-China dispute at Galwan Valley. In his speech, PM said that India very well knows how to respond to aggression against it.

Before addressing the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the planning and preparations for vaccination against the pandemic, as and when it is available.
