'Won't Do Anything And...': PM Modi Tears Into Oppn For Opposing New Parliament Building, National War Memorial

Modi’s remark came as he virtually laid the foundation for upgrading 508 railway stations across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took a swipe at the Opposition saying there is a faction that will neither do anything nor let anyone do anything. Modi’s remark came as he virtually laid the foundation for upgrading 508 railway stations across the country. Referring to the Opposition’s boycott of the inaugural ceremony of the new Parliament building, Modi said that the Parliament is the symbol of the country's democracy but this faction opposed the new Parliament building.

"...Unfortunately, a faction of the Opposition in our country is following the old ways even today. They will neither do anything by themselves nor let anyone else do anything,” Modi said during his address.

“The country built a modern Parliament building. Parliament is the symbol of the country's democracy. It has representation from the Ruling side as well as the Opposition. But this faction of the Opposition opposed the new Parliament building,” he said.

He also berated the Opposition for opposing the redeveloped Kartavya Path and not building a war memorial during their 70 years of rule but “when we built the National War Memorial, they felt no shame in criticising it publically.”

“Sardar Vallabhbhai Pate's Statue of Unity is the tallest building in the world.  Every Indian is proud of it. But none of the big leaders of a few political parties ever visited the Statue...Rising above negative politics, we are going ahead on the path of positive politics as a mission," he added.

The redevelopment project known as the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, reflects the Prime Minister's unwavering commitment to providing world-class public transport, said the Prime Minister’s Office in a statement. The initiative is aimed to transform railway stations into modern, state-of-the-art facilities, catering to the needs of millions of passengers, it added.

Speaking on the occasion, the PM said that India is at the beginning of its 'Amrit Kaal' and there is 'new energy, new inspiration and new resolutions and in this spirit'. He said that every 'Amrit' station will be a symbol of the city's aspirations and India's ancient heritage.
