PM Modi Lauds Aditya-L1 Success At Police Top Brass Meet, Praises Navy For Foiling Hijack Bid Off Somalia Coast

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded Aditya-L1's success and said that the success of mission Chandrayaan 3 and Aditya-L1 are a testament to the capability of Indian scientists.

PM Modi was addressing the three-day All India Conference of Directors General and Inspectors General of Police 2023 in Rajasthan Jaipur.

ISRO on Saturday successfully performed the final manoeuvre to inject the Aditya-L1 spacecraft -- the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun -- into its final destination orbit, nearly 1.5 million kilometres from the Earth.

Addressing the 58th conference of the top brass of police forces from across the country, PM Modi said, "Aditya L1 will be directly exposed to the Sun, without any interference from the shadows of the moon and the earth. The scientific exploration of Aditya-L1 will be very easy for researchers. Similar to the historical success of Chandrayaan, this represents another impressive showcase of the abilities of Indian scientists,"

PM Modi also praised the Indian Navy for thwarting the hijacking of a bulk carrier, MV Lila Norfolk, off the coast of Somalia and rescuing all the 21 crew members, including 15 Indians.

"The Indian Navy conducted a brave operation two days ago. As soon as there was an indication of trouble with a merchant vessel advancing in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy and Marine Commandos quickly swung into action. There were 21 people on board this ship, and the Indian Navy successfully rescued all of them from the crisis," PM Modi said.

Speaking about the three new criminal laws that were passed by the Parliament in December 2023, Modi said, "Enactment of 3 new laws a paradigm shift in India's criminal justice system."

"Criminal laws framed with spirit of 'citizen first, dignity first, justice first'; police need to work with data instead of 'danda'," he further stated at the meet of top police brass in Jaipur.

Modi said that under the new criminal justice laws, a special focus has been laid on sensitizing women and girls about their rights and protection.

He said, "Indian police should transform itself into modern and world-class force to realise vision of a developed India by 2047."
