'Who Needs 'Money Heist' Fiction, When...': PM Modi's Jibe At Cash Haul Linked To Congress MP

PM Modi took a swipe at the Congress over the seizure of crores of rupees from premises allegedly linked to its MP Dheeraj Sahu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a swipe at the Congress on Tuesday over the seizure of crores of rupees from premises allegedly linked to its MP Dhiraj Sahu during a recent Income Tax raid. In a post on X, PM Modi said, "In India, who needs 'Money Heist' fiction, when you have the Congress Party, whose heists are legendary for 70 years and counting!".

The Income Tax (IT) department seized over Rs 300 crores in cash from premises linked to Sahu in Odisha. The IT department raided an Odisha-based distillery company, owned by the Congress MP's family and after five days of counting the total amount has been calculated to be Rs 351 crore – a "highest-ever" haul in a single action by any probe agency in the country.

Bharatiya Janata Party national president JP Nadda led a protest along with other party MPs outside Parliament against the Income Tax (IT) department raids on Sahu.

Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday sought to know why Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was silent on the seizure of crores of rupees from premises allegedly linked to his party MP Dhiraj Prasad Sahu during a recent Income Tax raid.

Addressing a press conference here, Reddy, also Telangana BJP president, expressed doubt that the unaccounted cash which was recovered during the searches might have been meant for use in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, as reported by news agency PTI.

On Sunday, the Congress party reiterated its stance on the subject of recovery of huge amount of money from the premises of Sahu. Distancing itself from the issue, the Congress said this is Sahu's personal matter and has nothing to do with the party.

The Income Tax department on Wednesday raided multiple locations associated with Sahu in Odisha and Jharkhand in which it recovered cash worth Rupees 300 crore. "I want to clarify that the party's stand on this issue is very clear. This is a personal issue of Dhiraj Sahu, and the Congress is not related to it," Congress leader Avinash Pandey said.
