Patna woman enroute to Kabul to ‘join IS’ arrested at IGI airport
New Delhi: A 28-year-old woman from Bihar has been detained by Delhi Police on the charges of allegedly planning to join the Islamic State (IS). Yasmeen Mohammad was about to board a flight to Kabul was detained on Sunday morning at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, along with her five-year-old son.
Yasmeen, along with her five-year-old kid came from Patna and was allegedly planning to join one of the 21 youth from Kerala who went missing last month, with some of them believed to have tried to join the Islamic State.
According to the cops in Kerala, Yasmeen was linked to Abdul Rashid from Kasaragod, who is believed to the main person behind departure of 21 youth from Kerala last month.
The 28-year-old is a divorcee, and was detained by immigration officials “during security check” after she started “screaming” at officials for “harassing her”.
According to the sources, Yasmeen was later handed over to Delhi Police’s special cell and was taken into custody by a team from Kerala Police, which had issued a Look-out Circular for her.
On Monday, she was produced in Kasaragod court where she was charged under the sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and remanded in judicial custody.
As per the police sources, Yasmeen was to leave the country along with the Kerala youth, but could not do so due to some delay in getting her documents cleared.
As per sources, she told police that the reason why she wanted to leave India was that she wanted to live a life as per Quran, which according to her was not possible here.
