Recently, there has been a constant tussle between Twitter and the central government regarding compliance with new IT rules.
The Ministry of Information Technology has revoked the third-party status granted to the microblogging platform due to the delay and hesitation in the compliance of the new rules by Twitter.
Along with this, the exemption given to Twitter from legal interference being a third-party platform has also been withdrawn. The third-party status ensured that Twitter was not responsible for the posts made by any user. Along with the waiver, Delhi Police have also registered a case against Twitter officials for spreading fake news.
Previously, there was another dispute between the chairman of this standing committee Shashi Tharoor and its member and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.
Nishikant Dubey had written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla demanding the removal of Tharoor from the post of chairman alleging that he was misusing the standing committee to further the agenda of Congress and its former president Rahul Gandhi.
The issue of the alleged Congress toolkit was brought up by Shashi Tharoor when he sought a direct response to the claims by BJP leaders from the IT Ministry. Tharoor had contended that as the chairman of the committee, he had the right to seek answers from the government.
