Oppn MPs To Continue Demand Over Amit Shah's Statement On Parl Security Breach

The decision was taken by the opposition's I.N.D.I.A. bloc during its meeting earlier in the day.

The opposition’s I.N.D.I.A. bloc on Tuesday decided to demand for the statement of Union home minister Amit Shah on the December 13 Parliament security breach incident in both the Houses. The decision was taken by the alliance during its meeting in the Parliament complex, a day after 78 MPs in both Houses were suspended for raising the demand.

Congress whip in Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore, who is among the suspended MPs said, “The demand for Home Minister Amit Shah's statement will continue and the suspended MPs will protest in front of the Gandhi statue.” 

The suspended MPs staged a protest near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the Parliament complex and raised slogans against the BJP-led Central government, demanding the resignation of prime minister and home minister and arrest of the BJP MP who issued entry passes to the intruders.

Earlier, the suspended lawmakers staged a sit-in protest on the stairs of the new Parliament building. 

"When the House is in session and a minister makes a statement outside, it amounts to (violation of) privilege of Parliament," Rajya Sabha leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters and wondered why the Home Minister was unwilling to make a statement in the House on the security breach issue.

The MPs were suspended on Monday after they created a ruckus in the Parliament demanding a discussion on the Parliament security breach incident.

"When the House is in session and a minister makes a statement outside, it amounts to (violation of) privilege of Parliament," Kharge told reporters and wondered why the Home Minister was unwilling to make a statement in the House on the security breach issue,” said Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Mahua Maji on Tuesday. 

"Who does the Police come under? What would have happened if he (Union Home Minister) had made a statement in Parliament on the incident (security breach),” said National Conference MP Farooq Abdullah.

As the chaos continued on Tuesday, 49 more MPs from opposition parties were suspended including Maji and Farooq.
