Background

Parliament Winter Session Live: Hello and welcome to the Parliament Winter Session Live blog, please follow this space for all the latest updates and news on the Winter Session of the Parliament which began on Monday.

The winter session began just a day after the Bharatiya Janata Party swept the Assembly polls in three out of four states — Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Congress, who was expecting a comeback in Madhya Pradesh and retain Chhattisgarh could only manage to oust Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana.

PM Narendra Modi advice the opposition parties to work properly during the sitting of both houses to show people that they care for them. He said the opposition will continue to see the results likes of the recently held assembly polls if they do not mend their ways.

Hinting towards the results of assembly elections and upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the PM said that temperature is decreasing as the weather is getting colder but political heat is increasing in the country. The Centre has planned to table a list of bills including the new bills to replace the IPC, Criminal Penal Code and the Evidence Act besides the bill on appointment of the chief election commissioner and other election commissioners.

Meanwhile, a meeting of opposition's I.N.D.I.A bloc, earlier scheduled for Dec 6, has now been postponed to Dec 17 after top leaders of many parties -- Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav and Nitish Kumar expressed inability to attend the huddle.

Among the bills listed to be tabled in the Lower House of the Parliament, the report by the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee into the allegation of the case is also included. The committee has recommended the expulsion of the TMC MP from Lok Sabha over the case. The government is also expected to move a motion to adopt the recommendation of the committee.
