In Rajya Sabha, CPI(M) MP John Brittas raises the question of media reports of the US linking an Indian official to an alleged murder attempt on a US national and Govt of India's rebuttal to Canada's charges, EAM Dr S Jaishankar says, "...Insofar as the US is concerned, certain inputs were given to us as part of our security cooperation with the US. Those inputs were of concern to us because they related to the nexus of organised crime, trafficking and other matters. So, because it has a bearing on our own national security, it was decided to institute an inquiry into the matter and an inquiry committee has been constituted. Insofar as Canada is concerned, no specific evidence or inputs were provided to us. So, the question of equitable treatment to two countries one of whom has provided inputs and one of whom has not, does not arise."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday cited poll data to assert that the BJP has become people's most preferred for governance as its record of winning state elections while in power is much better than the Congress.
Speaking at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, he credited "team spirit" for the party's big win in the recent assembly polls, noting that besides winning in three states it has also grown in strength in Telangana and Mizoram, as reported by news agency PTI. Quoting Modi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi told reporters that the Congress faced assembly polls 40 times while in power for one term in those states and could win only seven of them, having a dismal success rate of 18 per cent. The corresponding figures for the BJP is 22 out of 39 times, a success rate of 56 per cent, Modi noted.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 seeks amendment to the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004, while the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 provides amendment to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.

A total of 41,844 families were displaced during these three wars of 1947, 1965 and 1969. This bill is an attempt to give rights to those people, to give representation to those people..."

He says, "The Bill that I have brought here pertains to bringing justice to and providing rights to those against whom injustice was done, who were insulted and those who were ignored. In any society, those who are deprived should be brought forward. That is the basic sense of the Constitution of India. But they have to be brought forward in a way that doesn't reduce their respect. There is a huge difference between giving rights and giving rights respectfully. So, instead of weak and deprived category renaming it to Other Backward Class is important.

The winter session began just a day after the Bharatiya Janata Party swept the Assembly polls in three out of four states — Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Congress, who was expecting a comeback in Madhya Pradesh and retain Chhattisgarh could only manage to oust Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana.
PM Narendra Modi advice the opposition parties to work properly during the sitting of both houses to show people that they care for them. He said the opposition will continue to see the results likes of the recently held assembly polls if they do not mend their ways.
Hinting towards the results of assembly elections and upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the PM said that temperature is decreasing as the weather is getting colder but political heat is increasing in the country. The Centre has planned to table a list of bills including the new bills to replace the IPC, Criminal Penal Code and the Evidence Act besides the bill on appointment of the chief election commissioner and other election commissioners.
Meanwhile, a meeting of opposition's I.N.D.I.A bloc, earlier scheduled for Dec 6, has now been postponed to Dec 17 after top leaders of many parties -- Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav and Nitish Kumar expressed inability to attend the huddle.
Among the bills listed to be tabled in the Lower House of the Parliament, the report by the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee into the allegation of the case is also included. The committee has recommended the expulsion of the TMC MP from Lok Sabha over the case. The government is also expected to move a motion to adopt the recommendation of the committee.
