On Wednesday, the Parliament passed a bill to rename the New Delhi Arbitration Centre as the India International Arbitration Centre, reported news agency PTI. 

Tabled by Union Law Minister in Rajya Sabha, the New Delhi International Arbitration Centre (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was passed in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The bill was already passed in Lok Sabha in August 2022 which expands this to include the conduct of other forms of alternative dispute resolution besides arbitration.

Uproar was caused by Opposition on Wednesday also as it demanded discussion on the fresh clash between Indian and Chinese troops at the Tawang sector in Arunchal Pradesh along the Line of Actual Control. 17 Opposition parties staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha accusing the government of not holding discussion on the clash.

Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Aam Aadmi Party, MDMK, Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI, Janata Dal-United, DMK, Trinamool Congress, and Telugu Desam Party were among the 17 parties that walked out from the House during 'Zero Hour', reported news agency ANI. 

Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge among other Opposition leaders raised the issue to hold a detailed discussion on the clash when the House assembled for the day and Deputy Chairman Harivansh allowed 'Zero Hour' so that parliamentarians could raise their issues. 

Responding to the question of not conducting census yet, the Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai replied that the intent of the government for conducting Census 2021 was notified in the Gazette of India on March 28, 2019. Due to outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the Census 2021 and the related field activities have been postponed until further orders. The date of freezing the boundaries of administrative units has been extended upto December 31, 2022, as per a report by ANI.

Rs 3,723.38 Crore Spent On Advertisement Over 5 Years: Anurag Thakur

The government has spent a total of Rs 3,723.38 crore on the advertisement for its policies and programmes over the past five years through the Central Bureau of Communication, Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.

In a written reply, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said the expenditure on advertisements and publicity has not increased over the past five years.

According to the data shared by the government, Rs 1,220.89 crore was spent on advertisements in 2017-18 while an expenditure of Rs 1,106.88 crore was incurred in 2018-19, which was ahead of the general elections of 2019.

The government spent Rs 627.67 crore in 2019-20; Rs 349.09 crore in 2020-21 and Rs 264.78 crore in 2021-22, Thakur said. (PTI)

Dropout Rate Of Girls Has Declined Since 2014: Mandaviya

The dropout rate of girls from schools saw a decline since 2014 while PG seats have almost doubled, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Thursday.

"The number of MBBS seats has recorded an increase of 87 per cent. Eight years ago, there were 53,000 seats, which have now grown to 96,000," Mandaviya said.

In the same period, postgraduate medical seats have increased from 31,000 to 63,000, recording a 105 per cent increase, he said, adding that medical colleges have also increased from 387 in 2014 to 648 in 2022. (PTI)

MBBS Seats Increased By 87%, PG By 105% During NDA Rule: Mandaviya

The number of MBBS seats has increased by 87 per cent and that of PG by 105 per cent in the last eight years, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Thursday.

While interacting with reporters outside Parliament, Mandaviya emphasised that since 2014, several steps have been taken to ease access to quality education in the country for the younger generation. (PTI)
