PM Modi Chairs Union Cabinet Meeting Amid Suspense Over 'Historic Decisions' In Parliament's Special Session

The Union Cabinet meeting came after PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah convened with various ministers in a meeting held in the office of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi

A meeting of the Union Cabinet took place in the evening on Monday after the commencement of Parliament's five-day special session. The meeting, which comes on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's declaration on "historic decisions" to be taken in the session, has sparked widespread curiosity. Speculation abounds, with suggestions ranging from women's reservations to Other Backward Classes to the contentious "One Nation One Election" proposal and even a potential alteration of the country's name.

What further heightened intrigue was a series of significant meetings that transpired prior to the Cabinet gathering.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened with various ministers in a meeting held in the office of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi. Present in this assembly were prominent ministers such as Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupender Yadav, Anurag Thakur, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and V. Muraleedharan.

PM Modi To Lead Commemorative Event In New Parliament's Central Hall

Regarding the Parliament's special session, the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha will convene on Tuesday in the newly constructed Parliament building. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar, Prime Minister Modi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla are set to lead a commemorative event in the Central Hall of Parliament on Tuesday, celebrating the country's rich parliamentary legacy, news agency PTI reported.

Members of both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha have been invited to assemble in the Central Hall of the new Parliament building at 11 AM tomorrow. The objective of this gathering is to commemorate the Parliament's illustrious legacy and "commit to making Bharat a developed nation by 2047," as per P.C. Mody, Secretary-General of the Rajya Sabha, in a bulletin.

Furthermore, a group photo session featuring MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha is scheduled at 9:30 am on the new premises.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has urged members to refrain from "organised disruptions" and "carrying placards" within the new chamber.

On Monday, members from both Houses engaged in a discussion titled "Parliamentary Journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha -- Achievements, Experiences, Memories, and Learnings."

Speaker Om Birla acknowledged the historic occasion and the constructive discussions held, emphasising the transition to the new Parliament building as a momentous moment. Birla expressed hopes that the new building would witness even more substantial debates and elevated democratic traditions.

Prime Minister Modi, initiating the discussion in the Lok Sabha, paid tribute to visionary leaders who have contributed to India's democratic journey, including Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, P V Narasimha Rao, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The old Parliament building, as Birla highlighted earlier in the day, has played an "unparalleled" role in India's democratic progression, serving as the backdrop for collective decisions for the nation's welfare.
