‘Patriarchal Thinking’: Congress Slams BJP MP Manoj Tiwari’s ‘Naamard’ Jibe At Opposition

The Congress criticised BJP MP Manoj Tiwari for calling the Opposition "naamard (impotent)" as both sides continue to accuse each other of running away from a discussion on Manipur in Parliament.

The Congress party on Monday slammed BJP MP Manoj Tiwari for calling the Opposition "naamard (impotent)" saying that it reflects his "patriarchal thinking". The attack and counterattack come as the Parliament witnessed a third day of stalemate between the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA with protests and sloganeering. Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day as the NDA and INDIA continue to accuse each other of running away from a discussion on the ethnic violence in Manipur.

In a tweet, Congress party's Social Media and Digital Platforms chairperson Supriya Shrinate shared a video of BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and wrote: "The demand for Prime Minister's statement in the House is morality - it is a house, not an arena, where you are reciting odes to masculinity. I spit on your patriarchal thinking. Now that you have said it, the impotence is actually in running away from the house. PM should gather courage and speak on Manipur in the House."

In the video, the BJP leader can be heard saying, "Who will explain them? We want a discussion. They have to come. I challenge these impotent people."

Earlier in the day, leaders of several opposition parties staged a protest in the Parliament complex demanding that Prime Minister Modi make a statement in the House on the Manipur issue. The leaders held placards and banners that read INDIA for Manipur and INDIA demands PM Modi's statement on Manipur. The opposition parties also raised slogans against the government near Mahatma Gandhi's statue in the Parliament complex.

On the other hand, Home Minister Amit Shah said that he was willing to hold a discussion in Lok Sabha on the situation in Manipur and asked why the opposition was not ready for it.

Addressing Lok Sabha briefly, he requested opposition leaders to allow debate, saying that it was important for the truth to come out before the country on the Manipur issue.

After the House reassembled at 2.30 pm after three earlier adjournments over the Manipur issue, Shah said that leaders from ruling as well as opposition parties had been wanting to hold a discussion on the Manipur issue.

However, the members continued with their protest demanding a statement by PM Modi and both houses were adjourned for the day.
