Opposition to target the central government over Pegasus Project and centre's alleged mishandling of Covid pandemic.

Parliament Monsoon Session To Begin Today

New Delhi: While media reports on the 'Pegasus Project' claiming that phone numbers of Indian ministers, opposition leaders, and journalists have been found on a database of targets for hacking has shocked everyone, Parliament Monsson session beginning today is expected to be stormy.

Congress leaders are ready to corner the government over the issues as Shashi Tharoor has already raised the demand for an independent investigation. 

The beginning of the monsoon session also marks a big legislative agenda and the opposition is also likely to focus on a number of issues, including alleged mismanagement of Covid-19 pandemic and farmers' agitation apart from the 'Pegasus Project'.

The CPI has given the suspension of business notice in the Rajya Sabha to discuss Pegasus snoopgate.

TMC is also preparing to raise the matter of MoS Home Minister Nisith Pramanik's citizenship which is already creating ripples for the past few days. Congress MP has also raised the matter and even wrote to the Prime Minister to raise a probe on this matter as some media reports have claimed that he is a Bangladeshi national.

On Saturday, vice president and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu held a meeting of leaders of various parties in the upper house of Parliament to discuss the agenda of this year's monsoon session. Naidu appealed for a productive session.

During the meeting, the Union minister of parliamentary affairs Prahlad Joshi informed that the Centre has identified 29 bills including six ordinances replacing bills and two items of financial business for the session.

The monsoon session of Parliament 2021 will conclude on August 13.
