Background
The second week of part two of the Budget session of Parliament begins on Monday amidst an ongoing tussle between the ruling BJP and Congress over Rahul Gandhi's remarks in London and the opposition's demand for a JPC probe on the Adani-Hindenburg issue. Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed immediate adjournments following the commencing of their proceedings last week and ended with almost no work at all.
Another row over Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's statement in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir during his Bharat Jodo Yatra over women sharing with him incidents of 'sexual harassments' with them has intensified BJP's attack. The saffron party slammed Gandhi for not coming out and sharing the details of these cases so that the perpetrators could be brought to justice. Delhi Police sent him a notice seeking details of the victims. On Sunday, a team of Delhi police led by Special CP(L&O) Sagar Preet Hooda reached his residence in Delhi on Sunday for the same.
Here's what the last week of the Budget session looked like:
Rahul Gandhi's First Reaction To Ruckus Over London Speech
Reacting for the first time over the criticism drawn for his London speech, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said he did not speak anything "anti-India", adding "if they will allow I will speak inside the parliament."
A controversy in recent days stemmed from a speech by Rahul Gandhi at Cambridge University where he said that the Indian democracy is under attack and several politicians, including himself, are under surveillance.
During his address, Gandhi listed five key aspects of the alleged attack on Indian democracy — capture and control of media and judiciary; surveillance and intimidation; coercion by federal law enforcement agencies; attacks on minorities, Dalits and tribals; and shutting down of dissent
Opposition Formed Human Chain Outside Parliament
Opposition MPs being led by the Congress formed a human chain outside Parliament to protest over the Adani row on Thursday, reported news agency ANI. The opposition leaders demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the matter.
In the one-minute clip posted by ANI, more than 45 MPs could be seen standing in front of Parliament while joining hands together to make a human chain. The leaders were seen carrying posters saying "Finding the Missing", "Talk about Adani (in Parliament) and have JPC probe into it." They were also seen carrying portraits showing Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's faces being two sides of the same face.
Opposition Parties March To ED Office
Last week on Wednesday, leaders of the Opposition parties took to the road trying to march towards the ED office to submit a complaint against the Adani Group but were curtailed by the police.
A total of 16 Opposition parties participated in the protest march to the ED office yesterday including Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Janata Dal-United, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena (Uddhav), Aam Aadmi Party, Communist Party of India, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Indian Union Muslim League, Marumalachi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham, National Conference, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, and Kerala Congress.
