Pakistan Violates Ceasefire In J&K's Baramulla; Women Killed, Families Flee To Safer Places

Reports from the area said that some people have huddled inside homes frightened by indiscriminate shelling and firing from the Pakistani side.

Srinagar: A civilian has been killed, while scores of houses have been damaged in the ceasefire violation by Pakistani army in Hajipeer sector of Uri. Indian and Pakistan armies exchanged heavy gunfire across the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of north Kashmir's Baramulla district, which is still going on. Several shells landed in Nambla, Saidpora,Thajal, Silikote and adjoining villages, they said. The victim has been identified as 49-year-old women who was killed in alleged shelling by Pakistan along the LoC in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday, Another 35-year-old woman, identified as Parveena Begum wife Shabir Ahmad sheikh of Nambla suffered injuries and was shifted to SDH Uri for treatment, officials said. SDM Uri Reyaz Ahmad Malik said that the people fleeing from the LoC are being kept in Government Girls Higher Secondary School Uri. “If needed, we will also vacant Government Boys Higher Secondary School and NHPC Government quarters at Bandi Uri. “ The panic has also gripped the residents of Charunda, Batgran, Hathlanga, Soura, Mothal, Balkote, Silikote, Thajal, Tilawari, Nambla and Balkote, reports said. Police sources said Pakistan resorted to indiscriminate, unprovoked firing and shelling on the LoC around 10 p.m. on Wednesday in Tarkundi and Manjakote areas of Rajouri. Pakistan violated ceasefire on the LoC in both Poonch and Rajouri districts on Wednesday. Reports also said some cattle had perished in Pakistan shelling in addition to damages caused to civilian homes in Poonch and Rajouri districts.
