Out On Bail, Narasinghanand To Resume Hunger Strike For Release Of Dharma Sansad Case Co-Accused Tyagi

The Dasna temple head priest had organised a conclave in Haridwar in December last year where several speakers delivered hate speeches targetting Muslims.

New Delhi: After walking out of the Haridwar district jail on Thursday, Yati Narasinghanand, the head priest of Dasna temple, said he would resumed his hunger strike at Sarvanand ghat demanding the release of Jitendra Narayan Tyagi.

Yati Narasinghanand, the head priest of Dasna temple was released from jail after being arrested in connection with the Haridwar Dharma Sansad hate speech against Muslims and other cases in January.

Jitendra Narayan Tyagi, formerly known as Waseem Rizvi, is also accused in the Haridwar Dharma Sansad hate speech case.

Narsinghanand was released after a local court granted bail to him on Tuesday in a case slapped on him under section 509 of the Indian Penal Code for making objectionable remarks against women and abusing a journalist.

According to news agency PTI, he was granted bail in the Dharma Sansad case on February 7 but remained in jail due to the other cases in which the same court granted him bail on Tuesday.

The Dasna temple head priest had organised a conclave in Haridwar in December last year where several speakers delivered hate speeches targetting Muslims.

Talking to the media after coming out of jail, Narsinghanand said his release without that of Jitendra Tyagi did not mean anything and he was going to resume his hunger strike at the Sarvanand ghat in Haridwar.

He stressed that the protest will continue till Tyagi is released, PTI reported.

The ‘Dharam Sansad’ conclave, where the hate speeches were allegedly delivered, was organised from December 17-19 in Haridwar by Yati Narsinghanand and in Delhi by ‘Hindu Yuva Vahini’.

Both Jitendra Tyagi and Narsinghanand are among those named as accused in the FIRs lodged in connection with the event.

On January 13, Jitendra Tyagi became the first person to be arrested in connection with the case.

Jitendra Tyagi's bail application will be heard by the Uttarakhand High Court on February 21.

Waseem Rizvi, a former Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board chairman, had adopted the name of Jitendra Narayan Tyagi after converting to Hinduism.
