'BJP Lost Its Sleep': Bihar Congress Chief Says 'PM Modi Will Lose His Chair If Oppn Unites'
Bihar's Congress President claimed that the BJP is anxious about the united opposition's influence in the upcoming elections, questioning why a simple photo opportunity would cause such unease.
Bihar Congress President Akhilesh Prasad Singh said on Saturday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is concerned about the potential impact of the united opposition in the upcoming elections. Singh questioned why, if the opposition meeting was merely a photo opportunity, the ruling party in the Centre was experiencing "stomach aches". According to Singh, the BJP has lost sleep as a result of this meeting. They believe that if the opposition banded together, they will fall short of 100 seats, he said.
Singh said: "If the opposition meeting was merely a photo session, why is the BJP in ache? Why is he bringing this up at a press conference? The BJP has lost sleep as a result of this meeting. They believe that if the opposition banded together, they will fall short of 100 seats... Shivraj Singh (Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister) will be out of work in six months. His gaddi will go first, followed by Modi ji," he was quoted as saying in Hindi by news agency ANI.
On Friday, BJP leaders claimed that cracks had already appeared in the opposition ranks even before they could come together, as the AAP announced that it would not attend future meetings if the Congress did not support the Delhi ordinance.
Following the opposition meeting in Patna, the AAP skipped the press conference and issued a statement condemning the Congress' "silence" on the Delhi ordinance on administrative services.
Union minister Smriti Irani held two press conferences, one before and one after the meeting, and launched a scathing attack on the opposition leaders, referring to them as a "pack of wolves."
She claimed that the AAP's initial blackmailing demonstrates the "unholy alliance's" future.
"Political parties that previously disagreed are banding together. It is ironic that Trinamool Congress Party members today witnessed friendship between Mamata Bandyopadhyay and that Communist Party, the leadership of which was especially known for dragging Mamata by her hair, especially when she tried to speak for the people of Bengal," she said, referring to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, PTI reported.
Union minister RK Singh also stated that the AAP's withdrawal from the meeting demonstrated that the opposition is not united.
"It is clear that no decisions were made at today's Opposition meeting, so they convened another. The opposition is divided; Kejriwal did not attend the joint press conference because he is stuck on the ordinance," he was quoted as saying by PTI.
