New Delhi: After meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah over the breakout of violence in northeast Delhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that the Home Minister assured him of all help in restoring the law and order in the national capital.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Kejriwal said: “Everyone wants that the violence be stopped. The Home Minister had called a meeting today, it was a positive one. It was decided that all the political parties will ensure that peace returns to our city.”
On being asked if he will ask for the intervention by Army, Kejriwal said: “If it is needed then I hope...But right now the action is being taken by police...We've been assured (during meeting with the Home Minister) that adequate number of police personnel will be deployed as required.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting with Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Lt Governor Anil Baijal, Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, Congress leader Subhash Chopra, BJP leaders Manoj Tiwari, Rambir Singh Bidhuri and others, to deliberate on the prevailing tensions in the region.

Earlier Kejriwal had expressed his concern over the eruption of clashes in the northeast region, which has claimed seven lives, including a head constable.
“I am very worried about the prevailing situation in certain parts of Delhi. All of us together should make all efforts to restore peace in our city. I again urge everyone to shun violence. I am meeting all MLAs (of all parties) of affected areas along with senior officials in a while,” he had tweeted.
Fresh violence broke out in parts of northeast Delhi with mobs pelting stones, vandalising shops and threatening locals on Tuesday, a day after seven people were killed in violent clashes over the amended citizenship law.
Smoke was seen going up in some places and streets, including in the epicentre of the trouble Maujpur, were littered with stones, bricks and burnt tyres, testimony to the spiralling violence and bloodshed that took on a communal taint on Monday and injured about 150 people.
