At least 20 people people were rescued from the four-storey building in Zakir Nagar, a densely-populated neighborhood near Jamia Millia Islamia University. The blaze in southeast Delhi building broke out at around 2 am.
Exact reason of the fire is still not known but it is speculated that while most of the residents were asleep, the fire began in an electricity box and eventually grappled the whole building. Among the injured are those who jumped off the building to save themselves.

"Shocked to know about the loss of lives in Zakir Nagar fire. I am inspecting the incident spot & Del govt will provide all help to affected families. Cause of fire will be probed," he tweeted.
