Fight Against Covid-19 A Fine Example Of Cooperative Federalism: PM Modi Tells CMs In Video Meet

The meeting comes at a time when several economic activities have been started in the country, even as India has reached 4th place in terms of maximum Covid-19 infections in the world.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday kicked started his six round of consultation with Chief Ministers of as many as 21 states and Union Territories of the country via video conferencing on the backdrop of significantly rising Coronavirus cases in the country. "2 weeks have passed since Unlock 1, our experience during this time could be beneficial for us in future. Today I will get to know ground reality from you, your suggestions will help in chalking out future strategy," PM Modi said while starting the meeting. "In last few weeks, thousands of Indians returned to India from abroad & hundreds of migrant workers reached their home towns. Almost all modes of transport have resumed operations, still Covid-19 impact has not been that huge in India as in other parts of world," PM said. WATCH | PM Modi's Opening Remarks During His Interaction With CMs On Covid-19 Outbreak While speaking to the CMs, Prime Minister also pointed out that India's Coronavirus recovery rate has gone up over 50 per cent. However, he noted that for government death of even 1 Indian is unsettling but it is also true that India is one of the countries where there have been least deaths due to Covid-19. "To even think of stepping out without a mask or face cover is not right at present. ‘Do gaj ki doori’, hand-washing and use of sanitisers is of utmost importance. With markets opening&people stepping out, these precautions are even more important," he said in the video conference. "When India's fight against Coronavirus will be analysed in future, this time will be remembered for how we worked together and served as an example of cooperative federalism," Prime Minister added. PM Modi further said that it has to be kept in mind that our economy will open as much as we are able to stop Coronavirus, our offices, markets, modes of transport will open that much and new sources of income will open that much. Further PM also underlined that all modes of transport are now open, lakhs of migrant labourers have travelled back to their villages, thousands of Indians returned from abroad annd even though India has a huge population, Covid-19 has not assumed as life-threatening a form as in rest of world. The meeting was also attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories. As per Prime Minister's Office (PMO), CMs thanked Narendra Modi for his leadership during such a challenging time and uniting the country to fight for the collective fight against the virus. They provided feedback about existing health infrastructure in their states and efforts for augmentation to tackle the impact of virus.
